If you’re new here, welcome to Best Life Book Club, an online book club for women who love self-help and personal development.
If you’re not new, we are almost done with Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis. That means it’s time to get ready for the next book club pick!
Find out what we’re reading in March, download your suggested reading plans, get your books, and start reading.
Step 1: Get your books!
If you’re new to Best Life Book Club, you should know that we have two books going at any given time. We will be reading a new book every month or so while we read one other book much more slowly all year long.
Here’s what’s new in March!
Book 1: The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
Our March 2020 book is The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts by Gary Chapman. Chapman’s purpose with his New York Times bestseller is simple: to help us express love in a way that our partner (or any loved one, really) understands.
Sure, sometimes we get so busy that we forget to express love and appreciation at all. But other times (and this is the kicker, at least for me!), we think we’re doing a great job but there’s some miscommunication or disconnect that’s preventing our partner from receiving our loving intentions. This book is here to help with that disconnect, and I can’t wait to dive in.
And get this: The 5 Love Languages was first published in 1992 and it is still #6 on Amazon’s best-selling book list! Talk about staying power. If you’re like me and have heard so much about this book but have never gotten around to actually reading it, now is our time, ladies!

Gretchen Rubin’s very action-oriented The Happiness Project is our second book club pick to read slowly, in the background, throughout 2020.
The Happiness Project is divided into twelve chapters, one for each month of the year, so I thought it would be the perfect pairing with the rest of the books we’ll be reading in turn this year. We started this book in January and we’ll keep reading a chapter per month for the rest of the year.
In the spirit of flexibility and differing tastes, a slow and steady year-long pick also ensures that you always have something inspiring and motivational to read, even if you skip a short-term read here and there because you’ve read it already, have a really crazy schedule that time of year, or just don’t feel like it that month!

Four-Week Reading Plan for The 5 Love Languages
We’ll be reading The 5 Love Languages from Feb. 23rd to Mar. 23rd. It’s a pretty quick read so I think four weeks is plenty of time. Here is the suggested reading plan if you want to follow along. Scroll to the end of this post for a more printer-friendly version available for download.
Since this is an online book club and we don’t meet in person, on each Sunday listed in the plan, I’ll post my own thoughts on the pages we read for that week to get the ball rolling on our conversation. The comments section will be open for everyone to chime in with their own reactions, responses, questions, and experiences.
I suggest reading the designated pages by the date listed. But this is a book club–not an online class–so do absolutely whatever your heart desires.
I can’t wait to hear what everyone has to say!
Year-Long Reading Plan for The Happiness Project
Here is the suggested reading plan for The Happiness Project. Again, to download printer-friendly reading plans you can use as bookmarks, click on the link at the end of this post.
I started us off with January and February’s discussion posts on The Happiness Project, but I would love to open up the floor for other women in this online book club to submit posts for future months to lead our Happiness Project discussions. If you already know you are interested in writing a featured post, let me know in the comments below!
Want to print out your reading plan as a bookmark?
In fact, as a special treat, you can click on the link below to download simpler, more printer-friendly versions of both of these reading plans.
I designed them myself and think they make great bookmarks!
Oh no, what if I fall behind!?
No problem! For a couple reasons.
First, because this online book club is meant to inspire and empower women, there is no such thing as doing it wrong. Read at your own pace and contribute as it feels right for you.
Second, flexibility is one of the best reasons to join a a digital book club. Ladies, my posts and our discussions ain’t going anywhere. You can add your two cents in the comments whenever you like and revisit an old post if something comes to you weeks later. In fact, I would venture to say that someone who isn’t even reading our book club pick could probably still enjoy and benefit from our posts and discussions. So take that for what it’s worth!
Step 3: Start reading and I’ll see you back here on Mar. 1st!
And that’s that, ladies! Check back in on Mar. 1st (which is listed on your reading plan) for our first discussion about The 5 Love Languages. If you subscribe as an official Best Life Book Club member, I will email the post directly to you that day. If you haven’t subscribed yet, become an official member by clicking here.
Finally, are you on Instagram? If so, let us all know when you have your books and where you’re enjoying them by tagging @happyasannie and using #bestlifebookclub in your photos. I’d love to connect on there too!
