If you feel stuck or in an icky mood, there’s an easy feng shui trick that can reset the energy in your home and help you get unstuck.
What’s the trick? Move 27 things. Allow me to explain.
What is feng shui?
Feng shui (pronounced “fung shway”) is the Chinese philosophy of setting up our environments in a way that aligns with the natural world. According to feng shui principles, certain design and decor practices allow our living and work spaces to be more balanced with the natural energy of the world, which is believed to optimize our own energy, mood, and productivity.
How does this work? The idea is that there is a life force or energy that connects all living things. This energy, called qi (pronounced “chee”) needs to flow freely through our environments in order for us to live our best lives. If we design our spaces such that qi is blocked or doesn’t move optimally, it can negatively affect our wellbeing.
This post does not get into feng shui principles in great detail. I just want to share one really quick feng shui tip that can help clear out stagnant or negative energy in your home.
And that tip is to move 27 items.
Move 27 items to lift your spirits and brighten your mood.
Now, what do I mean by move 27 items? I mean to literally move them in space. Is there a glass on the coffee table in front of you? Pick it up and set it back down again. That’s one. That box of tissue on the side table? Move it over an inch. That’s two.
Here’s the magic though. If you’re like most people, you won’t just pick up a book and put it back on the shelf. Chances are that you will pick up an empty glass and put it in the sink. You will then find a dog toy under the dining table and toss it into your dog’s chew toy basket. Looking for more things to get you to 27, you will wander into your bedroom and move your earrings from your nightstand to your jewelry box.
And that’s why I especially love this tip. It’s woo-woo and highly practical at the same time, which should basically be the tagline for this blog. Yes, you are clearing the path for life force to move through your home, but you are also turning basic decluttering and tidying up into a fun little game.
But why 27?
Multiples of three are important in feng shui philosophy and Chinese numerology. Nine is a particularly auspicious number, since it’s three three times. And the number 27 is nine three times, which is also lucky. And, here’s the kicker: the digits in the number 27 (two and seven) add up to nine as well.
All of this makes 27 a mathematically magical number in feng shui.
So there you have it. Try this instant feng shui tip and let me know how it goes!
