10 Full Moon Rituals to Release What No Longer Serves You (and Amplify What Does) | Happy As Annie

To make room for the abundance the universe has in store for us, we need to release what no longer serves us. The full moon is a great time to release what no longer serves our highest good and, at the same time, amplify the positive energy coming into our lives.

Here are 10 full moon rituals to help you do just that.

The Moon’s Healing Energy

Most people accept the moon’s effect on the ebb and flow of ocean tides here on earth. But does the moon have any meaningful effect on human behavior? Myths of full moon “lunacy” (which comes from the word lunar, after all) abound, but is there any truth to the power of the moon?

Whether or not scientists back the belief that the moon is a highly influential force in our lives, the lunar phases–from new to full and back again–can offer a natural and meaningful spiritual cycle that helps us find balance. Many people believe particularly in the healing energy of the moon at its two most prominent phases: new and full.

The Energy of the Full Moon

Each new moon, nearly invisible to the naked eye, gradually grows bigger (or waxes) until it reaches maximum illumination in the full moon phase. After the full moon, the moon then wanes back into apparent oblivion to start the cycle over again with the next new moon.

Because the moon is its biggest and brightest in the full phase, the full moon is known to be a time of potent energies and powerful emotions. As such, the full moon is a great time to shine a light on and celebrate all that brings you joy and vitality.

Just as importantly though, the moon begins to wane after the full moon phase. To mirror the winding down or shrinking of the moon in the sky, the full moon is the perfect time to release negative energies that are no longer serving us. The idea is that the full moon will take these energies from us and they will disappear along with the moon over the next couple of weeks.

To sum up, the full moon marks an opportunity to rejoice and celebrate wins as well as to forgive and let go of losses. We are shedding the old so that we can start over again with the next full moon.

Ten Rituals for the Full Moon

I love to harness lunar energy at the time of the full moon by celebrating all I have accomplished and manifested and also releasing what no longer serves me and may be holding me back from my full potential. We have to be free and clear of that stuff in time for the next new moon after all.

That’s why I think these ten rituals are perfect to do while full moon energy is in the air.

But, if we’re being totally honest, I think they are invaluable rituals that can also be done whenever you damn well please! So feel free to keep them in your pocket to use year round.

Ritual 1: Cleanse your home’s energy

Since the full moon is a time of release, cleansing and releasing negative energy is a classic full moon ritual. The above ritual suggests sage, but you could use another type of herb bundle or wood, like sweetgrass or palo santo, if you prefer.

Ritual 2: Express your emotions

The full moon isn’t just about release though. A lot of people feel really energized, really emotional, or both around the full moon! So, this second full moon ritual holds space for any sentimentality and emotional overwhelm you may be feeling around this time. Think of it as releasing your positive energy to go out into the world and multiply!
