10 Travel Must Haves, Even if You LIke to Pack Light!

{disclaimer: this post is sponsored by DAFNI, creator of the revolutionary hair straightening ceramic brush.}

whether it’s a weekend getaway or a sights-filled overseas adventure, here are my ten travel must haves.

i like to travel light. and i like to be as low maintanance as possible. these ten items (beyond obvious items like underwear!) allow me to do just that with comfort and style.

Happy As Annie Travel Must Haves: Makeup Remover Towelettes and Tinted Moisturizer

1. makeup remover pads

the first of my travel must haves is makeup remover pads. i could pack a clunky bottle of makeup remover. wrap it in plastic to make sure it doesn’t spill in my bag. throw a handful of cotton balls into a ziploc bag for application. but instead, i travel with makeup remover pads. they’re just so much easier! use a wipe and toss!

in fact, if i’m traveling extra light, i won’t even pack makeup remover. i’ll just snag a couple tea tree face cleanser pads out of my husband’s bag!

2. tinted moisturizer

speaking of makeup, i limit myself to one small makeup pouch when i travel. this means i must edit, edit, edit! instead of foundation, concealer, highlighter, and blush, i pack my favorite tinted moisturizer and that’s it.

bonus points if it has spf! what is that, five birds with one stone!? amazing!

Happy As Annie Travel Must Haves: Dry Shampoo and the DAFNI Hair Straightening Brush

3. dry shampoo

let’s be honest. trading in my unmanagemable mane for a pixie cut was one of the best decisions i ever made. yes, it’s dramatically easier to take care of my hair these days. but, i still want to limit precious vacation time spent primping in front of a mirror.

so, if i can stretch my previous wash for just one more day with dry shampoo, i’m in. in fact, unless i’m camping (let’s be honest, #glamping), a travel size dry shampoo is the only shampoo i take with me. just spray it in, brush through, and you’ve bought yourself one more day!

4. DAFNI hair straightening brush

the DAFNI hair straightening brush straightens long, luxurious locks. but it’s PERFECT for styling shorter hair too, which is why i love it. and why it’s one of my travel must haves.

my pixie is longer in the front, but it’s still too short (and scary!) for a flat iron. there just isn’t enough hair to get the iron close to my roots without burning my face or ears! but with the DAFNI, i just slowly brush through my hair like i would with a regular brush. its design prevents the hot ceramic from burning my scalp or skin. easy peasy styling in under two minutes!

5. a pair of flip-flops

even if you don’t spend your vacation on the sand or pool-side, flip-flops are essential. they’re so handy to have as you walk around your hotel room. to get out of bed to pee in the middle of the night. to step out onto the balcony to enjoy that ocean view you paid extra for. you get the picture! do not underestimate the power of a pair of flip-flops when you’re traveling!

Happy As Annie Travel Must Haves: Nail Clippers!

6. nail clippers

first, these take up barely any space in your cosmetics bag. second, have you ever had a hang nail on a trip? then you know what a life saver a small set of nail clippers can be on your travels.

they’re also handy for clipping loose threads and for safely removing price tags off new clothes. because what’s a vacation without shopping, am i right?

7. a pill case for otc must-haves

by now i’ve learned never to travel without something for a headache and something for a stomachache. i don’t like having a bunch of pill bottles with me. so, i fill a small pill case or baggie with advil, tums, pepto and the like. even if i don’t end up needing them, i like to know they’re there!

8. hand sanitizer

you guys, traveling is gross. the first time i rode the nyc subway, i couldn’t wash my hands enough times afterward! you’re hopping on and off public transportation, shopping, holding hand rails, and pressing elevator buttons. your hands get grimey, and there aren’t always convenient restrooms where you can wash your hands. the solution? hand sanitizer!

9. body mist

i’m not about to pack a $100 bottle of perfume with me for a trip. but, i like having some type of fragrance with me. if i have a travel size bottle of perfume, i may toss that in with my makeup. but usually, i opt for a travel size bottle of body mist.

if your travel involves a plane ride, this is an EXTRA must have. it freshens and refreshes you after a long flight.

Happy As Annie Travel Must Haves: Pocket Sized Notebook or Planner

10. pocket sized notebook or planner

come on. you didn’t think a #plannergirl would travel without a planner, did you? depending on the trip’s length, i may or may not take my personal size filofax with me. for traveling though, i usually switch to a regular wallet, notebook, and pen for my carry-on. you never know when you’ll need to jot something down. Or when inspiration will strike and you can’t lose your brilliant idea!

a happy medium is to downsize temporarily to a pocket filofax. in fact, the finsbury i used as a wallet for awhile is the perfect travel companion. it’s the ideal wallet-notebook combo.

Can’t say they are on my travel must have list, but then again I am a guy! But I’m pretty sure I’ve seen my wife pack most of these!

I need to get one of those straightening brushes. I already have stick straight hair but my daughter would love that.
