Best Life Book Club by Happy As Annie

Congratulations! It’s 2020 and you have finally found an online book club for women dedicated to self-empowerment and personal growth. So, let’s get started! Find out our first two book club picks, download your suggested reading plans, and start reading!

Step 1: Get your books!

My plan is to have two Best Life Book Club books going at any given time. We will be reading a new book every 6-8 weeks or so while we read one other book much more slowly all year long. Here’s what’s up first!

Book 1: Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

Our first book club pick for 2020 is Girl, Stop Apologizing: A Shame-free Plan for Embracing and Achieving Your Goals by Rachel Hollis. Rachel Hollis encourages—nay, insists—that we give ourselves permission to have big fat dreams in the first place. That we stop settling and playing small. That we stop keeping our goals a secret because we feel embarrassed or afraid or guilty for having them.

What a perfect online book club choice for women who are ready to kick some serious ass!

Because I am a woman of action and like to read books that offer concrete, practical guidance as well as inspirational food for thought, I couldn’t help but pick Gretchen Rubin’s very action-oriented The Happiness Project as a second book to read slowly, in the background, throughout 2020.

The Happiness Project is divided into twelve chapters, one for each month of the year, so I thought it would be the perfect pairing with the rest of the books we’ll be reading in turn this year. In the spirit of flexibility and differing tastes, a slow and steady year-long pick also ensures that you always have something inspiring and motivational to read, even if you skip a short-term read here and there because you’ve read it already, have a really crazy schedule that time of year, or just don’t feel like it that month!

Since this is an online book club and we don’t meet in person, on each Sunday listed in the plan, I’ll post my own thoughts on the pages we read for that week to get the ball rolling on our conversation. The comments section will be open for everyone to chime in with their own reactions, responses, questions, and experiences.

I suggest having the designated pages read by the date listed. But this is a book club–not an online class–so do absolutely whatever your heart desires.

Oh no, what if I fall behind!?

No problem! For a couple reasons.

First, because this online book club is meant to inspire and empower women, there is no such thing as doing it wrong. Read at your own pace and contribute as it feels right for you.

Second, flexibility is one of the best reasons to join a a digital book club. Ladies, my posts and our discussions ain’t going anywhere. You can add your two cents in the comments whenever you like and revisit an old post if something comes to you weeks later. In fact, I would venture to say that someone who isn’t even reading our book club pick could probably still enjoy and benefit from our posts and discussions. So take that for what it’s worth!

    Just picked up my book at Target! They price matched their current online sale price of $9.69…what a deal! I wanted the real deal in my hands, rather than my usual Kindle version. I’m excited to get started.
